I'm pretty sure that you've been informed wrongly as it's actually the device's firmware that needs updating. Much like flashing a PC's BIOS, it requires new software to be loaded onto the DVD player... and this can't be done using the handset. There are sites that do this for Ł60 (incl. VAT & P&P) so keep looking!
