GE Model 1106P-B Contrast/Color Problem

Haven't used this more than a dozen times, hooked it up as an input to our VCR, and play it thought that, and when it is playing a DVD it is almost as though something is cycling the contrast from dark to bright over and over and over, it does not stop. It goes from really bright to really dark, then back again. Anyone know why this is happening? Is it junk?
