The following has just unlocked the VCD feature of my dvd player. Try it

Press Setup on Remote
Press Next
Press Prev
Press Next
Press Prev
Ver should appear in the top right
change 3001 to 3000
change 5001 to 5000

vcd and svcd playback is now enabled
