Alba dvd 114

Does anyone know why the alba dvd 114 doesn't play all vcd's? Just got some vcd's on cd-r disks from a website and the machine doesn't recognise the disk, but it had played another vcd's and plays music cd-r's. The said vcd's play fine ona friends logix dvd. Any info?
